How to install a Chrome extension
Got your ZIP file? Follow these essential steps to add it to the developer dashboard, prepare the listing, and submit it to the Chrome Web Store.
What you need
A ZIP file containing your Manifest V3 extension and a Chrome Web Store developer account. Google currently charges a one-time US$5 developer registration fee: it is not a subscription and you do not repay it for every extension. If your extension was generated with ExtensionFast, the ZIP is already prepared for this step.
Open the developer dashboard
In Chrome, open the menu and go to the Developer dashboard. This is where you manage extensions attached to your publisher account.
- Sign in with the Google account that will publish the extension.
- If this is your first time, register as a Chrome Web Store developer and pay the one-time US$5 registration fee.
- Open the Chrome Web Store developer dashboard.
- Click New item to add a new extension.
Upload your ZIP file
After clicking New item, the Chrome Web Store asks for the extension package. Drop the ZIP into the upload area or click Select a file.
- Do not unzip the package before uploading it.
- Select the complete ZIP generated for your extension.
- Wait for Google to import it and create the draft.
Complete the Chrome Web Store listing
Once the ZIP is accepted, the extension appears as a draft. Complete the required information in the Store listing.
- Check the title and summary imported from the package.
- Add a clear description of what the extension does.
- Select the category and language.
- Then complete the privacy and distribution sections required by Google.
